Amends the Illinois School Student Records Act. Provides that upon the discovery of a breach of security that results in the unauthorized release, disclosure, or acquisition of student information contained in a school student record, a school shall, no later than 48 hours after discovery, notify the parent of the student whose record is involved in the breach of security. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois School Student Records Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 6.5 as follows: |
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 10/6.5 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 6.5. Security breach. Upon the discovery of a breach |
| 8 | | of security that results in the unauthorized release, |
| 9 | | disclosure, or acquisition of student information contained in |
| 10 | | a school student record, a school shall, no later than 48 hours |
| 11 | | after discovery, notify the parent of the student whose record |
| 12 | | is involved in the breach of security.

| 13 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 14 | | becoming law.
