| 1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Articulation Initiative Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 30 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 30. Degree program advice. To improve articulation and |
| 8 | | reduce excess academic credit hours, beginning with the |
| 9 | | 2019-2020 academic year, each public institution shall require |
| 10 | | any student who, upon completing 30 academic credit hours, is |
| 11 | | interested in pursuing an associate degree or baccalaureate |
| 12 | | degree at the public institution in which he or she is enrolled |
| 13 | | or at another public institution to indicate to the public |
| 14 | | institution in which he or she is enrolled all of his or her |
| 15 | | degree programs of interest. The public institution in which |
| 16 | | the student is enrolled shall make a reasonable attempt to |
| 17 | | conduct a meeting with the student and an academic advisor of |
| 18 | | the public institution, who shall inform the student of the |
| 19 | | prerequisite requirements for the student's degree programs of |
| 20 | | interest.

| 21 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 22 | | becoming law.
