| 1 | | AN ACT concerning State government.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
| 5 | | Section 3-698 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-698) |
| 7 | | Sec. 3-698. U.S. Air Force License Plates. |
| 8 | | (a) The Secretary, upon
receipt of all applicable fees and |
| 9 | | applications made in the form prescribed by
the Secretary of |
| 10 | | State, may issue special registration plates designated as
U.S. |
| 11 | | Air Force license plates to
residents of Illinois who meet |
| 12 | | eligibility requirements prescribed by the
Secretary of State. |
| 13 | | The special plate issued under this Section shall be
affixed
|
| 14 | | only to passenger vehicles of the first division, motor |
| 15 | | vehicles of the second
division weighing not more than 8,000 |
| 16 | | pounds, and recreational vehicles as
defined by Section 1-169 |
| 17 | | of this Code. Plates issued under this Section shall
expire |
| 18 | | according to the multi-year procedure established by Section
|
| 19 | | 3-414.1 of this Code. |
| 20 | | (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be |
| 21 | | wholly
within the discretion of the Secretary of State, except |
| 22 | | that the U.S. Air Force emblem shall appear on the plates. The |
| 23 | | Secretary may, in his or
her discretion, allow the plates to be |

| 1 | | issued as vanity or personalized plates
in accordance with |
| 2 | | Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required
to |
| 3 | | designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of |
| 4 | | Section
3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the |
| 5 | | eligibility requirements
and, in his or her discretion, shall |
| 6 | | approve and prescribe stickers or decals
as provided under |
| 7 | | Section 3-412. |
| 8 | | (c) An applicant shall be charged a $20 fee for original |
| 9 | | issuance
in addition to the applicable registration fee. Of |
| 10 | | this additional fee,
$15 shall be deposited into the Secretary |
| 11 | | of State
Special License Plate Fund
and $5 shall be deposited |
| 12 | | into the Octave Chanute Aerospace Heritage Fund. For
each |
| 13 | | registration renewal period, a $20 fee, in addition to the |
| 14 | | appropriate
registration fee, shall be charged. Of this |
| 15 | | additional fee, $2 shall be
deposited into the Secretary
of |
| 16 | | State Special License Plate Fund and $18 shall be deposited |
| 17 | | into the Octave Chanute Aerospace Heritage Fund. |
| 18 | | (d) The Octave Chanute Aerospace Heritage Fund is created |
| 19 | | as a special fund
in the State treasury. All moneys in the |
| 20 | | Octave Chanute Aerospace Heritage Fund
shall be paid, subject |
| 21 | | to appropriation by the General Assembly and
approval by the |
| 22 | | Secretary, as grants to the Rantoul Historical Society and |
| 23 | | Museum, or any other charitable foundation responsible for the |
| 24 | | former exhibits and collections of the Chanute Air Museum, |
| 25 | | Octave Chanute Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Illinois for |
| 26 | | operational and program expenses of the Chanute Air Museum and |
