| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives condemn in the strongest
possible terms the |
| 4 | | decision of the Illinois Secretary of State to allow the |
| 5 | | Snaketivity display to
remain in the Capitol rotunda during the |
| 6 | | Christmas and Hannukkah seasons; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, We respect and understand the rights of free |
| 8 | | speech and equal access that are
guaranteed under the |
| 9 | | Constitution of the United States, however, the fact that the |
| 10 | | Snaketivity
display is considered to be a religious display on |
| 11 | | par with the nativity scene and menorah is
directly |
| 12 | | contradicted by the Satanic Temple's description of itself as a |
| 13 | | non-theistic organization; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The Satanic display is nothing more than a |
| 15 | | publicity stunt meant to cause outrage
and division; therefore, |

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 18 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 | | condemn in the strongest possible terms the decision by the

| 20 | | Secretary of State to allow the Satanic display to remain in |
| 21 | | the Capitol rotunda, and we urge the
Secretary of State to |
| 22 | | reject the Satanic display in the future; and be it further
