HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague, 
4State Representative Daniel J. Burke, on his 28 years as a 
5member of the Illinois General Assembly and to thank him for 
6his dedicated service to our State and his community; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Representative Burke was born and raised on the 
8South Side of Chicago, the son of the late Alderman Joseph P. 
9Burke and Ann G. Burke, brother to Alderman Edward M. Burke and 
10the late Chicago Police Officer Joseph P. Burke; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Representative Burke comes from a family with 
12strong ties to the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois, 
13but he has forged his own path while continuing his family's 
14legacy of public service; for the last decade, he has served as 
15the Assistant Majority Leader for the House Democratic Caucus; 
16he has held the position of Chairman of the House Executive 
17Committee for the last 12 years; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Representative Burke has served as a mentor and 
19confidante to many of his colleagues, past and present, for the 
20last two decades; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, In the Legislature, Representative Burke has been

1a steady and forceful voice for immigrants, children, police 
2officers, and fire fighters as well as an advocate for animal 
3rights; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Among the notable bills he championed is the 
5Colleen O'Sullivan Law, which was enacted during the 93rd 
6General Assembly; after a young former Statehouse Attorney lost 
7her life due to shockable cardiac arrest while training for the 
8Chicago Marathon, O'Sullivan's family and friends enlisted 
9Representative Burke to help fight for a law requiring public 
10venues to have automated external defibrillators and to expand 
11life-saving training; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Burke always carried himself as a 
13consummate statesman, and those close to him will always 
14remember him as a caring friend, a talented piano player, and 
15the best dog dad; therefore, be it
  
 
  
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
18congratulate and honor State Representative Daniel J. Burke for 
19his dedicated service as a member of the Illinois House of 
20Representatives, and we wish him the best in his future 
21endeavors; and be it further
  
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
