| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate St. Peter's Lutheran |
| 4 | | Church in the Village of St. Peter on the occasion of its 150th |
| 5 | | anniversary; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, In the 1860s, settlers in Southeast Fayette County |
| 7 | | founded St. Peters when they employed Pastor J.F. Schnurre to |
| 8 | | conduct services every other week; the fledgling congregation |
| 9 | | signed a charter to officially organize a church congregation |
| 10 | | on January 8, 1869; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, On May 25, 1869, Samuel Fogler donated land to the |
| 12 | | congregation and a small church, park, and parsonage were |
| 13 | | built; several years later, a school was established and still |
| 14 | | operates today as St. Peter's Lutheran School; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, After the congregation outgrew the original |
| 16 | | building, Anna Borchelt donated land on which a new church was |
| 17 | | built in 1984; the congregation built again in 1948, and the |
| 18 | | third church building was dedicated on May 28, 1950; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, St. Peter's Lutheran Church has been a staple in |
| 20 | | the Village of St. Peter's since its founding and provides |
| 21 | | spiritual inspiration, education, and charity to the citizens |
