| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to honor their
colleague, State Rep. | ||||||
| 4 | Barbara Wheeler, for her tenure in the Illinois General | ||||||
| 5 | Assembly and thank her for her
service to the people of the | ||||||
| 6 | 64th District and the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Rep. Wheeler is a true Illinoisan, having been | ||||||
| 8 | born and raised in Lake
County; she received her Bachelor of | ||||||
| 9 | Arts in Education from Loyola University and a Master of | ||||||
| 10 | Education,
Language, and Literacy from National Louis | ||||||
| 11 | University in Chicago; she settled her family in
Crystal Lake; | ||||||
| 12 | and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Rep. Wheeler's career of service began as a Peace | ||||||
| 14 | Corps volunteer and continued as a public school
teacher at | ||||||
| 15 | North Elementary School in Crystal Lake; she was elected to the | ||||||
| 16 | McHenry County
Board in 2002; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, As a board member, Rep. Wheeler advocated for | ||||||
| 18 | local conservation
efforts and was awarded the Theta Award from | ||||||
| 19 | the McHenry County Environmental Defenders; in fighting for | ||||||
| 20 | fiscal responsibility, she improved the county bond rating to | ||||||
| 21 | Aaa during her
tenure; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, In 2012, Rep. Wheeler was elected by the people of | ||||||
| 2 | the 64th District as their State Representative;
since then she | ||||||
| 3 | has strived to bring forth legislation for fiscal | ||||||
| 4 | responsibility, public safety,
bringing jobs back to Illinois, | ||||||
| 5 | and the conservation of the Fox River Valley; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Rep. Wheeler worked to find common ground with | ||||||
| 7 | members of both
parties to implement significant policies to | ||||||
| 8 | help eliminate senseless violence; she served on the
| ||||||
| 9 | bipartisan, bicameral Legislative Public Safety Working Group; | ||||||
| 10 | and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Rep. Wheeler advocated for a comprehensive | ||||||
| 12 | approach to public safety
that would take positive steps | ||||||
| 13 | towards a safer environment for her constituents while | ||||||
| 14 | respecting
the rights of law abiding citizens, passing | ||||||
| 15 | legislation to prevent gun violence by expanding
the Stalking | ||||||
| 16 | No Contact Order Act and tightening mental health restrictions | ||||||
| 17 | in FOID law; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, As a champion of the rights of human trafficking | ||||||
| 19 | victims, Rep. Wheeler passed the Human
Trafficking Resource | ||||||
| 20 | Center Notice Act and worked tirelessly to end the scourge of | ||||||
| 21 | modern day
slavery in Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Rep. Wheeler has enjoyed working cooperatively | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | with fellow members,
advocates, and the diligent staff that | ||||||
| 2 | populate the statehouse every spring and fall; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Rep. Wheeler served honorably in the Illinois | ||||||
| 4 | General Assembly while
continuing to be a devoted mother to | ||||||
| 5 | four girls and one son; she has also served her community as an | ||||||
| 6 | active
member and volunteer at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic | ||||||
| 7 | Church; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 9 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | honor and congratulate State
Rep. Barbara Wheeler for her work | ||||||
| 11 | in the Illinois House of Representatives and for her
years of | ||||||
| 12 | service to the 64th District; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to Rep. Wheeler as an
expression of our respect along | ||||||
| 15 | with our best wishes for the bright future ahead of her.
