| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate their
colleague, State | ||||||
| 4 | Rep. Reggie Phillips, on the occasion of his retirement as | ||||||
| 5 | State Representative of the
ll0th District after serving three | ||||||
| 6 | distinguished terms in the General Assembly; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips grew up in Arthur; after graduating | ||||||
| 8 | high school, he and his wife, Martha, received their | ||||||
| 9 | associate's
degrees from Lakeland College; they went on to | ||||||
| 10 | obtain their Bachelor of Science degrees
from Eastern Illinois | ||||||
| 11 | University; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips and Martha have been married for 39 | ||||||
| 13 | years and currently reside in
Charleston; they have four adult | ||||||
| 14 | children and 10 grandchildren; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, In addition to his commitment to public service, | ||||||
| 16 | Rep. Phillips and Martha started
a residential and commercial | ||||||
| 17 | building business in Charleston in 1986, which now employs
| ||||||
| 18 | approximately 400 people; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips has made a positive impact in our | ||||||
| 20 | state during his six years of service
in the General Assembly; | ||||||
| 21 | and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, During the budget impasse, Rep. Phillips played a | ||||||
| 2 | key role in advocating for his district,
especially Eastern | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois University; in July of 2017, following a multi-year | ||||||
| 4 | budget stalemate, he successfully
secured funding for Eastern | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois University in the state budget; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Not only did Rep. Phillips fight for EIU, he has | ||||||
| 7 | been a voice for making
Illinois a more competitive and | ||||||
| 8 | attractive place to live and conduct business; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Rep. Phillips' commitment to public service and | ||||||
| 10 | business experience has been
invaluable to the General Assembly | ||||||
| 11 | and the House Republican Caucus; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | honor State Representative
Reggie Phillips for his work in the | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois House of Representatives and wish him our best on his
| ||||||
| 16 | retirement; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to Rep. Phillips as an
expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 19 | respect.
