HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate State Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez on her retirement and recognize her years of service to the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez was sworn in as the State Representative for the 99th District on November 20, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez has lived in the Springfield area since she was five; she attended Cathedral Grade School and Ursuline Academy; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of Illinois at Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez worked as a reporter for KHQA in Quincy and WICS in Springfield before taking a position as Deputy Director of Communications for the Illinois State Treasurer's office; she worked as press secretary for the Illinois House Republican Caucus and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Program Communications for the Illinois State Comptroller's office; she also worked as chief of staff to Illinois First Lady Diana Rauner; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez was elected to a term on the Springfield Park District Board in 2011; she was an advocate for parks and recreation opportunities in Springfield while collaborating with other trustees during tough economic times; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez fought for a more efficient, transparent, and accountable state government that better serves Illinois families; she introduced initiatives to prohibit automatic cost of living raises for elected officials and to prohibit collection of session-day mileage and per diem payments for legislators residing in Sangamon County; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez served as the House Republican Spokesperson on the House Discrimination and Sexual Harassment Task Force and worked with colleagues across the aisle to pass bipartisan reforms strengthening harassment and discrimination protections in State and local government; and

WHEREAS, With bringing in good jobs for families in her district as a top priority, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez, spearheaded passage of a new law that creates a Capitol/Springfield area hiring preference for State positions that could return hundreds of State jobs to the Sangamon County area; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez worked with local constituents to pass new laws that will help families statewide, including protecting adult children's visitation with elderly parents and expanding successful veteran courts; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez partnered with members of the community to craft innovative local solutions, including partnering with Computer Banc to repurpose used State computer equipment for schools and daycare facilities and spearheading a penny drive with local school children to purchase an Abraham Lincoln artifact and return it to Illinois for the State's bicentennial; and

WHEREAS, On the occasion of Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez's retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives her colleagues wish to recognize and thank her for her public service and for her continued work to make her community and the State of Illinois a better place to live, work, and raise a family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate State Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez on her retirement, recognize her years of service to the State of Illinois, and thank her for her work on behalf of the people of the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we wish Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez, her husband, Jose Carlos, and their twin sons, Charlie and Augie, the very best as they begin a new chapter; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rep. Wojcicki Jimenez and her family as a symbol of our esteem and well wishes.
