| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate their colleague, State | ||||||
| 4 | Rep. Jeanne Ives, on the occasion of her retirement as State | ||||||
| 5 | Representative of the 42nd District; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives grew up in Vermillion, South Dakota and | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from the United States Military
Academy at West Point | ||||||
| 8 | in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives served in the U.S. Army until 1993; her | ||||||
| 10 | assignments included
platoon leader and headquarters | ||||||
| 11 | detachment commander for transportation units in Germany and
| ||||||
| 12 | ROTC instructor at Wheaton College; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives resigned from the Army in 1993 to raise | ||||||
| 14 | her children and work as a tax advisor and
bookkeeper for small | ||||||
| 15 | businesses and individuals; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives was elected to the Wheaton City Council | ||||||
| 17 | in 2011; her tenure was marked by
conservative leadership and | ||||||
| 18 | an unwavering commitment to the taxpayers' bottom line; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives ran for State Representative in 2012, | ||||||
| 20 | won a competitive Republican primary, and
was elected to the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | seat in November; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives took the oath of office as State | ||||||
| 3 | Representative for the 42nd District in January of 2013;
among | ||||||
| 4 | her first acts, she refused both a taxpayer-funded pension and | ||||||
| 5 | healthcare; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, In her first term, Rep. Ives focused on pension | ||||||
| 7 | and tax reform in
the State, term limits for lawmakers, | ||||||
| 8 | government transparency, and school
choice; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives served with distinction as a member of | ||||||
| 10 | the Task Force on Veterans' Suicide and the
Discharged | ||||||
| 11 | Servicemember Task Force; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives has lived in Wheaton for over 25 years | ||||||
| 13 | with her husband, Paul, who is also a USMA Class
of 1987 | ||||||
| 14 | graduate, and their five children; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Rep. Ives is a proud parent volunteer at her | ||||||
| 16 | children's schools and has been coaching the St.
Michael Boys | ||||||
| 17 | and Girls Championship Cross Country teams for 12 years; | ||||||
| 18 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 20 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||

| 1 | congratulate State Rep. Jeanne Ives on her retirement, commend | ||||||
| 2 | her for her distinguished service to the 42nd District, and | ||||||
| 3 | wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
| 4 | further
