| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Harrisburg CUSD #3's |
| 4 | | Summer Food Program and Food Service Coordinator Valarie Hodges |
| 5 | | on receiving an honorable mention from the Governor's Hometown |
| 6 | | Award Program for 2018; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Summer Food Program was started by Valarie |
| 8 | | Hodges, Food Service Coordinator for the School District, in |
| 9 | | 2012; the program allows for free meals to be given to any |
| 10 | | child under the age of 18; the addition of adult meals for the |
| 11 | | cost of $3 was recently added to accommodate the adults who |
| 12 | | bring the children; at the end of the 2017 school year, the |
| 13 | | Harrisburg District entered into the fifth year of providing |
| 14 | | balanced meals to the Harrisburg Community; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, In 2017, over ten thousand meals were served in 44 |
| 16 | | days; since June of 2018, 5,735 meals have been served; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, During the school year, the nutritional needs of |
| 18 | | children are met; during summer break, those same children's |
| 19 | | needs do not change; the program has an on-site facility and |
| 20 | | also delivers meals to certain mobile sites each day, so that |
| 21 | | every child has the opportunity to receive a healthy meal each |
| 22 | | day of summer break; and
