HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Chicago Marines 
4Foundation on its success in supporting veterans in the 
5Chicagoland area and beyond; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Established in 2013, the Chicago Marines 
7Foundation is a group of veteran, retired, and reserve Marines 
8whose mission is to help Marines and other veterans in need by 
9creating a community that provides a support network, by 
10raising awareness of veterans' issues, and by funding 
11established and vetted veterans' charities; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The Marine Corps has a long and distinguished 
13history and prides itself on its traditions; the Marine Corps 
14was founded at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 
15November 10, 1775, and it is one of the most important dates in 
16its long and rich history; the birthday of the Marine Corps has 
17been celebrated by Marines around the world in embassies, on 
18fire bases, in ballrooms, and on battlefields; this celebration 
19is a time for Marines,  veterans and civilians to come together, 
20re-connect, reflect on service, and continue to plan how to 
21support our veterans and this great nation; and
  
 

  
22    WHEREAS, The Chicago Marines Foundation's signature event

1is a celebration of the Marine Corps birthday; now in its fifth 
2year, the celebration is known as the Best Birthday Party in 
3Chicago and creates camaraderie and esprit de corps and serves 
4as a fundraising platform; over the last four years, the 
5foundation has raised over $65,000 for charities that support 
6veteran initiatives; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
8HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9congratulate the Chicago Marines Foundation on its success, and 
10we commend its service to veterans in the Chicagoland area, the 
11State of Illinois and our nation; and be it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to the Chicago Marines Foundation as a symbol of our 
14esteem and respect.
