| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Harry A. | ||||||
| 4 | Volant of Ladd, who passed away on October 7, 2018; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Harry Volant was born in Ladd to Harry Sr. and | ||||||
| 6 | Lena (Fererro) Volant on November 6, 1924; he attended Ladd | ||||||
| 7 | Grade School and Hall High School; he served as a sergeant in | ||||||
| 8 | the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945; he served | ||||||
| 9 | in Africa, Italy, Germany, and France and received the Silver | ||||||
| 10 | Battle Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Purple Heart in | ||||||
| 11 | 1944; he married Yvonne Granfield at St. Benedict Church in | ||||||
| 12 | Ladd on January 31, 1948; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Harry Volant worked as a foreman and assistant | ||||||
| 14 | chemist at the Illinois Industrial Rubber Co. in Ladd from 1948 | ||||||
| 15 | to 1961; he was an inspector for the Department of Agriculture | ||||||
| 16 | for the State of Illinois from 1961 to 1965; he worked for the | ||||||
| 17 | Department of Revenue for the State of Illinois from 1965 until | ||||||
| 18 | retiring in 1989; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Harry Volant served with the Ladd Fire Department; | ||||||
| 20 | he was a player and manager for the Ladd Merchants baseball | ||||||
| 21 | team from 1946 to 1959; he was a member of St. Benedict Church, | ||||||
| 22 | American Legion Post #936, and the Loyal Order of the Moose; he | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | served 14 years on the Bureau County Board and on the Hall | ||||||
| 2 | Township High School Board from 1966 to 1980; he was a Ladd | ||||||
| 3 | alderman for six years and mayor of Ladd from 1965 to 1997; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Harry Volant had a passion for cooking, gardening, | ||||||
| 5 | and sports; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; he was | ||||||
| 6 | known for his dedication to his family and his love for the | ||||||
| 7 | Village of Ladd; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Harry Volant was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 9 | and his sisters, Corrine and Sara Volant; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Harry Volant is survived by his wife of 70 years, | ||||||
| 11 | Yvonne; his children, Teryl (Bob) Destri, Keith (Grace) Volant, | ||||||
| 12 | Kevin (Kellie) Volant, Nanette (Paul) Crawford, and Melissa | ||||||
| 13 | (Shawn Bowen) Shrier; nine grandchildren; four | ||||||
| 14 | great-grandchildren; his brother, Raymond Volant; his sister, | ||||||
| 15 | Barbara Lucas; and his special caregivers, Karen Sterchi and | ||||||
| 16 | Mary Renkosik; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 19 | mourn the passing of Harry A. Volant and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 20 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 21 | him; and be it further
