| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate CP Crawford on the |
| 4 | | occasion of his 111th birthday on August 25, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, CP Crawford was born in Jackson, Mississippi to |
| 6 | | John and Mattie Crawford on August 25, 1907; his mother passed |
| 7 | | away when he was an infant, and his father struggled with |
| 8 | | raising six children while also working in the fields; he and |
| 9 | | his siblings were all separated and raised by aunts and uncles; |
| 10 | | and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, CP Crawford began working in the fields at the age |
| 12 | | of four and was not allowed to attend school; he spent his days |
| 13 | | picking cotton, plowing fields for corn, and maintaining the |
| 14 | | gardens until the age of 12; when he was 13, he was offered a |
| 15 | | job washing dishes at a cafe; later in life, he worked at the |
| 16 | | Southland Oil Refinery in Mississippi and the Illinois Central |
| 17 | | Railroad, which brought him to Chicago; after more than 11 |
| 18 | | years working for the railroad, he retired; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, During his life, CP Crawford was married three |
| 20 | | times; although he had two biological children, he was a father |
| 21 | | to six; and
