| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Floyd Mizener on being | ||||||
| 4 | honored by the Friends for Downers Grove Township Seniors; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Floyd Mizener is a graduate of Downers Grove | ||||||
| 6 | Community High School; he then attended the Marine Corps | ||||||
| 7 | Institute and graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry | ||||||
| 8 | in 1949; he served in the United States Marine Corps during | ||||||
| 9 | World War II; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Floyd Mizener was in private practice in Downers | ||||||
| 11 | Grove and Naperville for 52 years; he was instrumental in | ||||||
| 12 | changing Illinois law regarding vision screening for children | ||||||
| 13 | and seniors; he implemented the first peripheral vision | ||||||
| 14 | requirement for all motorists; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Floyd Mizener served as Chairman on former | ||||||
| 16 | Secretary of State Jim Edgar's Vision Advisory Committee; he | ||||||
| 17 | served as President of the Illinois Optometric Association, | ||||||
| 18 | where an award was recently renamed the "Floyd Mizener Friend | ||||||
| 19 | of Optometry Award"; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Floyd Mizener has been a member of the Lions Club | ||||||
| 21 | for 63 years; he has served as the chairman of the Downers | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Grove YMCA; he is a proactive supporter of Friends for Downers | ||||||
| 2 | Grove Township and a senior advisory member of Downers Grove | ||||||
| 3 | Township; he donated land that is now utilized by the Good | ||||||
| 4 | Samaritan Hospital Professional Building; he has held | ||||||
| 5 | leadership positions in many optometric and civic | ||||||
| 6 | institutions, including the West Suburban Optometric Society, | ||||||
| 7 | the Vision Conservation Institute, and the American Optometric | ||||||
| 8 | Association; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Floyd Mizener is a dedicated community activist | ||||||
| 10 | and volunteer who has helped to build a better quality of life | ||||||
| 11 | for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | congratulate Floyd Mizener on being honored by the Friends for | ||||||
| 15 | Downers Grove Township Seniors, and we wish him continued | ||||||
| 16 | success and happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to Floyd Mizener as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
| 19 | respect.
