HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, On May 25, 2012, the President of the United 
3States of America proclaimed May 28, 2012 through November 11, 
42025 as the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 
5Vietnam War; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Prairie State College has partnered with the 
7United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary 
8Commemoration, established by Congress, to "thank and honor 
9veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held 
10as prisoners of war (POW) or listed as missing in action (MIA), 
11for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States 
12and to thank and honor the families of these veterans"; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, It is important to honor the men and women who 
14survived and the 58,260 men and women who gave their lives, 
15seven of whom were from Homewood, Matteson, and Richton Park; 
16and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The citizens of Homewood, Matteson, and Richton 
18Park must never forget the pain and suffering that lingers 
19today for the men and women who fought with honor and 
20distinction in the name of freedom and democracy for all; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois renews its commitment to

1those who answered the country's call to service in Vietnam and 
2their families; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Throughout this commemoration, we will strive to 
4live up to their example by showing our Vietnam veterans, their 
5families, and all of the men and women who have served our 
6country the fullest respect and support of a grateful State and 
7nation; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The freedoms and liberties we are blessed to enjoy 
9are a direct result of their courage, devotion, and sacrifice, 
10and we draw inspiration and pride from their example; 
11therefore, be it
  
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
13HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14honor the Village of Homewood, the Village of Matteson, and the 
15Village of Richton Park's Vietnam Veterans
on this 
16commemorative event; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
18presented to the Village of Homewood, the Village of Matteson, 
19and the Village of Richton Park as a symbol of our respect and 
20esteem.
