HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate David Bigsby on 24 years 
4as pastor; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Pastor Bigsby was born in Marietta, Georgia
on 
6August 31 1945 and was a
member of the Hensley Temple; he 
7attended Morehouse
College from 1963 to 1967 and joined the 
8U.S. Army in 1967; he achieved the rank
of staff sergeant and 
9was honorably discharged in 1969
after receiving a Bronze Star; 
10he married Gloria Knight in
November of 1969, and they had two 
11children, Ingrid Nicole and David Maurice, and now have four 
12grandchildren, Cole, Nicole, Alex, and Noelle; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Pastor Bigsby attended Northwest Missouri State

14University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in

15Psychology in August 1975; he received his CLU from
American 
16College in 1979; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Pastor Bigsby joined the
Calvary Baptist Church in 
18Glenwood in 1981; he preached his first sermon on
Thanksgiving 
19morning in 1985; he worked with the Pastor
Support Ministry,  
20taught the new members class, and
played a major role in the 
21church's worship service; he was installed as pastor in 1994; 
22and

1    WHEREAS, Pastor Bigsby served as president of the South 
2Suburban
Action Conference until 2009; he was elected
vice 
3president of the African American Leadership
Commission; in

4July of 2009, he was elected president of
the Gamaliel National 
5Clergy Caucus and
installed at ILA in St. Louis; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Pastor Bigsby was unanimously elected
president 
7and chairman of the Council of Presidents of
the Gamaliel 
8Network; in December of 2012, he was elected to the Gamaliel 
9Board of Directors
and served on the South Suburban Action

10Conference's Executive Board; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13congratulate David Bigsby on 24 years as pastor, and we wish 
14him many more wonderful years; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Pastor Bigsby as a symbol of our respect and 
17esteem.
