HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Manuel de Jesus Marques 
4Martinez on the occasion of his 90th birthday; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez was born in Guanajay, Cuba to 
6Candida Martinez and Manuel Marques on August 11, 1928; he was 
7the oldest of five siblings, Jorge, Sergio, Carlos, Antonio, 
8and Rene; always excelling in mathematics, he attended grade 
9school at La Escuela de Saavedra and high school at El 
10Instituto #1 de Havana; he graduated from La Universidad de 
11Havana with a degree in public accounting; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez married Maria Antonia Fernandez 
13de Garcia on August 8, 1954, and they had two children, Manuel 
14Enrique "Manny" (Cynthia M. Donka) and Maria Antonietta 
15"Marita" (James G. Long); they have six grandchildren, Brittany 
16Amelia, Christopher Manuel, Marisa Alyce, Samantha Maria, 
17James Daniel, and Michael Manuel; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In Cuba, Manuel Martinez worked for La Fabrica de 
19Zapatos de Fefo from 1949 to 1950, U.S. Roberts from 1950 to 
201959, and the Ministerio de Hacienda en el Gobierno de Fidel 
21Castro, El Departamente de Impuestos (IRS) from 1959 to 1961; 
22and

1    WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez and his family immigrated to the 
2U.S. in April of 1962; they arrived in Miami and eventually 
3settled in Chicago; and
 
4    WHEREAS, From 1962 to 1991, Manuel Martinez worked for 
5Fel-Products, Inc. in Illinois; he retired in 1991; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez and his wife have especially 
7enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and traveling 
8the world; in 1996, they bought a condo on the beach in 
9Hollywood, Florida and settled there full-time in 2000; and
  
 
  
10    WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez taught his children the value of 
11hard work, that teamwork with your spouse is a necessity and an 
12expression of love,  and that family is the number one priority 
13in life; therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
15HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
16congratulate Manuel de Jesus Marques Martinez on his 90th 
17birthday, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it 
18further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to Manuel Martinez as a symbol of our respect and
