| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Catherine | ||||||
| 4 | Rogers, affectionately known as "Grandma Katie," of Chicago, | ||||||
| 5 | who passed away on June 25, 2018; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers was born in Chicago to Robert and | ||||||
| 7 | Jessie Mae Thomas on June 21, 1925; she graduated from | ||||||
| 8 | Englewood High School in 1943; after high school, she continued | ||||||
| 9 | her education at Provident Hospital in Chicago, where she | ||||||
| 10 | studied nursing and radiology; she married Riley H. Rogers | ||||||
| 11 | M.D.; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers postponed her education and | ||||||
| 13 | career to nurture her children; following the untimely death of | ||||||
| 14 | her husband, she resumed her career in the medical field and | ||||||
| 15 | served as Manager of Medical Records at Schwab Rehabilitation | ||||||
| 16 | Institute; she retired from the Rehabilitation Institute of | ||||||
| 17 | Chicago (RIC) after 38 years in the medical community; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers committed to her faith at an | ||||||
| 19 | early age and was a member of Ward Memorial Baptist Church | ||||||
| 20 | under the leadership of Reverend J.W. Ward; at Ward Memorial | ||||||
| 21 | Baptist, she served as Minister of Music and played the piano | ||||||
| 22 | and organ; in 1971, she joined the Fellowship Missionary | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Clay Evans; | ||||||
| 2 | throughout her active tenure at Fellowship, she served in the | ||||||
| 3 | choir; she loved gospel music, family gatherings, and cooking; | ||||||
| 4 | throughout her life, her primary focus was always the wellbeing | ||||||
| 5 | of her family; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 7 | parents; her husband, Riley; and her children, Lynda and Eddie; | ||||||
| 8 | and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers is survived by her children, | ||||||
| 10 | Dwight (Linda), Larry (Pam), Gwennie, Riley, Brenda, and | ||||||
| 11 | Anthony (Vanessa); her 18 grandchildren; her 29 | ||||||
| 12 | great-grandchildren; her 9 great-great-grandchildren; her two | ||||||
| 13 | devoted caregivers, Sonia and Faustina; and her many other | ||||||
| 14 | relatives and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | mourn the passing of Catherine Rogers and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 18 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 19 | her; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Catherine Rogers as an expression of | ||||||
| 22 | our deepest sympathy.
