| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Arun C. Pinto | ||||||
| 4 | on his retirement from the Human Service Center after 14 years | ||||||
| 5 | as the Senior Vice President and Corporate Medical Director; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, For more than a decade, Dr. Pinto has concurrently | ||||||
| 8 | served as the Medical Director for several organizations, | ||||||
| 9 | including the Human Service Center, the Children's Home | ||||||
| 10 | Association of Illinois, and the Peoria County Adult and | ||||||
| 11 | Juvenile Detention Center; he previously served as the Medical | ||||||
| 12 | Director of Methodist Medical Center's Department of | ||||||
| 13 | Psychiatry, where he was also the Chairman of the Department of | ||||||
| 14 | Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto graduated from St. Xavier's College in | ||||||
| 16 | 1966 and Seth G.S. Medical College in 1974; he completed | ||||||
| 17 | internships with K.E.M. Hospital in Mumbai, India and Cook | ||||||
| 18 | County Hospital in Chicago; he completed his residency in adult | ||||||
| 19 | psychiatry and a fellowship in child psychiatry at Tulane | ||||||
| 20 | University Affiliated Hospitals in New Orleans, Louisiana; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto served as an Assistant Professor and | ||||||
| 22 | Clinical Instructor at Tulane Medical School from 1975 until | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | 1980; since 1980, he has served his community by offering his | ||||||
| 2 | leadership and expertise as a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry | ||||||
| 3 | and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Illinois College | ||||||
| 4 | of Medicine; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto is currently a Board Member of the | ||||||
| 6 | Illinois Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness | ||||||
| 7 | (NAMI) and a Council Member of the Illinois Psychiatric | ||||||
| 8 | Society; he also serves on the Central IL Coalition for Mental | ||||||
| 9 | Health Recovery; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto was named a Distinguished Fellow by the | ||||||
| 11 | American Psychiatric Association, was awarded the University | ||||||
| 12 | of Illinois Community Health Award, and received the Pathways | ||||||
| 13 | Award for Advocacy in recognition for his extraordinary | ||||||
| 14 | commitment to the behavioral health of the community; he | ||||||
| 15 | received further recognition from NAMI with an Exemplary | ||||||
| 16 | Psychiatrist Award and the Hero's in the Fight Award, which he | ||||||
| 17 | received twice; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto was instrumental in numerous community | ||||||
| 19 | reforms, including the Peoria County Mental Health Court, the | ||||||
| 20 | establishment of a psychiatric residency at the University of | ||||||
| 21 | Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, and the development of | ||||||
| 22 | a Crisis Center for decompensating and substance-afflicted | ||||||
| 23 | individuals; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto impacted important state-wide mental | ||||||
| 2 | health statutory reforms, including empowering families to | ||||||
| 3 | initiate involuntary commitment of decompensating family | ||||||
| 4 | members and legislation that enables college students to sign a | ||||||
| 5 | confidentiality waiver allowing parents to be notified in the | ||||||
| 6 | event of a mental health issue while at an institution of | ||||||
| 7 | higher learning; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto was born in Mumbai, India on April 14, | ||||||
| 9 | 1949; his parents, as well as three of his five siblings, are | ||||||
| 10 | physicians; he married Mary Jo Lehnhausen in 1977 and became a | ||||||
| 11 | United States citizen on September 24, 1982; he and his wife | ||||||
| 12 | are active in St. Thomas Parish; they are the parents of Navin | ||||||
| 13 | (Jennifer) Pinto, Kiran (Cory Morris) Pinto, and Anjali Pinto | ||||||
| 14 | and the grandparents of Elly and Frances Pinto; he enjoys | ||||||
| 15 | spending time with his family and friends and looks forward to | ||||||
| 16 | spending his retirement cooking elaborate meals and traveling | ||||||
| 17 | the globe; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto is highly respected and deeply loved by | ||||||
| 19 | his family and all who know him; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 21 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 22 | congratulate Dr. Arun Pinto, and we wish him the best of luck | ||||||
