| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sister |
| 4 | | Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R., who passed away on May 7, 2018, at the |
| 5 | | age of 104; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Sister Yokiel was born in Wells, Minnesota on July |
| 7 | | 22, 1913; she entered the
Congregation of the Sisters of the |
| 8 | | Resurrection in August of 1931; she earned degrees in education
|
| 9 | | and biology and studied in Rome for a year at
Regina Mundi; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Sister Yokiel taught and served as a principal in |
| 11 | | grade schools and high schools for 54
years; for 16 years she |
| 12 | | served at Resurrection College Prep High School as a biology |
| 13 | | teacher and as principal; she was instrumental in the planning |
| 14 | | of the current high school building that
opened in 1962 and |
| 15 | | worked closely with the parents clubs and other community |
| 16 | | groups to raise funds for
building the school and for |
| 17 | | continuing updates and modernization; after spending 54 years |
| 18 | | in education, she became a hospital chaplain and spent another |
| 19 | | 16 years
ministering at Our Lady of the Resurrection and |
| 20 | | Resurrection Medical Centers; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Sister Yokiel always held Resurrection
College |
| 22 | | Prep High School close to her heart and supported the school in |
