HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Rob Widmer on the occasion 
4of his retirement as President of Heartland Community College 
5on June 30, 2018; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Rob Widmer has served Heartland Community College 
7for 22 years; he was Vice President of Business Services from 
81996 until 2013; he helped establish the  Normal campus on Raab 
9Road and the additions to that campus; he also worked with the 
10Illinois Army National Guard on the addition of the Normal

11Readiness Center; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, In 2013, Rob Widmer became interim president of 
13Heartland Community College, and shortly thereafter, 
14president; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Rob Widmer guided Heartland Community College 
16through the Illinois state budget impasse,
presided over a new 
17strategic planning process, and enhanced the college's 
18reputation as an essential
community resource; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Under Rob Widmer's leadership,  Heartland 
20Community College was named winner of the McLean County Chamber 
21of Commerce
Large Business Excellence Award (2017) and received

1a "Best Colleges to Work For" designation
from The Chronicle of 
2Higher Education (2016); and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Rob Widmer is a graduate of Gridley High School; 
4he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at
Western 
5Illinois University with additional doctoral studies at 
6Illinois State University and the University of Illinois at 
7Springfield; he is the proud father of four sons and 10 
8grandchildren (with an eleventh grandchild on
the way); 
9therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we  
12congratulates Rob Widmer on his retirement as President of 
13Heartland Community College, and we wish him the best in all 
14his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Rob Widmer as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
