| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Heritage Middle School on |
| 4 | | being invited to attend the 10th Annual Our American Voice |
| 5 | | Summit in Springfield to share their community project with |
| 6 | | other schools from across the State, meet legislators, and tour |
| 7 | | the Capitol; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Our American Voice begins with the fundamentals of |
| 9 | | democracy - how government works - and lessons of change |
| 10 | | distilled from the American Revolution to the civil rights |
| 11 | | movement and beyond; it takes a critical additional step by |
| 12 | | teaching students how to apply these lessons to their local |
| 13 | | communities, form vigorous partnerships with other |
| 14 | | organizations, and create living projects and campaigns that |
| 15 | | generate real results; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Heritage Middle School's project consisted of |
| 17 | | working to replace the American flags in the school common |
| 18 | | areas; additionally, they are devising strategies to serve |
| 19 | | Berwyn residents in need; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Participating in Our American Voice and visiting |
| 21 | | the Capitol is a memorable learning experience that teaches |
| 22 | | students the fundamentals of American democracy and helps them |
