HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize Emerson Elementary School on 
4being invited to attend the 10th Annual Our American Voice 
5Summit in Springfield to share their community project with 
6other schools from across the State, meet legislators, and tour 
7the Capitol; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Our American Voice begins with the fundamentals of 
9democracy - how government works - and lessons of change 
10distilled from the American Revolution to the civil rights 
11movement and beyond; it takes a critical additional step by 
12teaching students how to apply these lessons to their local 
13communities, form vigorous partnerships with other 
14organizations, and create living projects and campaigns that 
15generate real results; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Earlier this year, students organized, monitored 
17and sorted over 220 clothing donations for a local charity to 
18distribute to families in need of warm gear, now, the OAV 
19students are researching the plausibility of installing a new 
20water fountain for the school; and
  
 


  
21    WHEREAS, Participating in Our American Voice and visiting 
22the Capitol is a memorable learning experience that teaches

1students the fundamentals of American democracy and helps them 
2work to create positive change in their community; therefore, 
3be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6recognize Emerson Elementary School on being invited to attend 
7the 10th Annual Our American Voice Summit in Springfield to 
8share their community project; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Emerson Elementary School as a symbol of our 
11respect and esteem.
