HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the Theta Rho Omega Chapter 
4of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on 50  years of 
5service and sisterhood and mark their anniversary on November 
617, 2018; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega was the first chapter
chartered in 
8the south suburbs of Chicago in 1968 in the city of Markham; 
9and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega is committed to implementing the 
11five basic tenets of
the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority that have 
12remained unchanged since the sorority's inception
over  110 
13years ago: to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and 
14ethical standards, to promote unity
and friendship among 
15college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning

16girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to 
17maintain a progressive
interest in college life, and to be of 
18"Service to All Mankind"; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega has provided 50 years of community

20service programs which have enhanced the quality of life for 
21citizens of all ages in the southern
suburbs, impacting black 
22families and the areas of education, health, economic

1development, the arts,
and global concerns; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega has continually promoted, 
3supported, and encouraged high scholastic achievement through 
4mentoring and scholarship opportunities;  over $200,000 in

5scholarships to deserving high school students have been 
6awarded; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Just like their sisters in the 1,012 chapters of 
8the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority around the globe, the dynamic 
9women of the Theta Rho Omega Chapter have worked to transform 
10their communities and improve our State; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13recognize the Theta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha 
14Sorority, Incorporated on 50  years of service and sisterhood, 
15and we wish them many more years of success; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Theta Rho Omega as a symbol of our respect and 
18esteem.
