HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Animal Welfare League was founded in 1935 to stop the suffering of animals in Chicagoland; the Animal Welfare League's mission is to prevent cruelty to animals, provide quality homes through adoption, promote respect and compassion for all creatures through humane education, provide shelter and care for homeless and unwanted animals, reduce pet overpopulation through its in-house low-cost spay and neuter clinic, provide veterinary care for low-income pet owners, and relieve the suffering of animals; and

WHEREAS, Recently, a constituent has voiced concerns about the treatment of the animals under the care of the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge; allegations include the mistreatment of animals by employees and terrible living conditions for the animals; and

WHEREAS, Animal cruelty prevention is a major concern for our society, and it is important to put a stop to this silent epidemic in the communities across our State; and

WHEREAS, Illinois has done tremendous work to put policies in place to protect animals across our communities to ensure they are well taken care of; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge an investigation into the treatment of the animals under the care of the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge to ensure they are following the criteria established in their mission statement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Chris Dogoda.
