| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Arielle Cohen, Maelie | ||||||
| 4 | Goren, Maritza Cervantes, the 16h Street Theater, and District | ||||||
| 5 | 100 School Piper Elementary in Berwyn on the production and | ||||||
| 6 | debut performance of "I am Brave and Unafraid"; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Piper Elementary School started its first drama | ||||||
| 8 | program; the program, led by Maeli Goren and Maritza Cervantes, | ||||||
| 9 | artists from Berwyn's 16th Street Theater, is sponsored, in | ||||||
| 10 | part, by the Illinois Arts Council Agency (IACA); and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Students in grades first through third developed | ||||||
| 12 | an original play with music inspired by the children's book of | ||||||
| 13 | the same name written by Arielle Cohen; students were exposed | ||||||
| 14 | to the world of creative expression and teamwork and met for 18 | ||||||
| 15 | sessions, which included writing, producing, and ultimately | ||||||
| 16 | performing an original play with music; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, "I am Brave and Unafraid" presents the universal | ||||||
| 18 | values of confidence, curiosity, bravery, and hope, which are | ||||||
| 19 | important to modern society; performances will take place at | ||||||
| 20 | the 16th Street Theater on May 8, 2018 and at Piper Elementary | ||||||
| 21 | School on May 9, 2018; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Local author Arielle Cohen crafted her visionary | ||||||
| 2 | literary work for the cultural and creative enlightenment of | ||||||
| 3 | our nation's children; she has a passion to educate and inspire | ||||||
| 4 | others to learn and adopt an "I can" attitude; she encourages | ||||||
| 5 | readers to take hold of their fears and use their power of | ||||||
| 6 | thought to be brave and unafraid, thereby increasing their self | ||||||
| 7 | confidence; she holds a bachelor of arts from the University of | ||||||
| 8 | Wisconsin and a double master's degree from Gratz College; she | ||||||
| 9 | lives with her family in Berwyn; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 11 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 12 | congratulate Arielle Cohen, Maeli Goren, Maritza Cervantes, | ||||||
| 13 | and District 100 School Piper Elementary on their debut | ||||||
| 14 | performance of "I am Brave and Unafraid," and we commend their | ||||||
| 15 | hard work and creativity; we wish them continued success in all | ||||||
| 16 | their future efforts; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to Arielle Cohen, Maeli Goren, Maritza Cervantes, the | ||||||
| 19 | 16th Street Theater, and District 100 School Piper Elementary | ||||||
| 20 | as an expression of our esteem and respect.
