HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, As leader of the most powerful nation in the world the President of the United States must possess the physical and mental stability to properly serve and lead the greatest nation on earth; and

WHEREAS, The president should be able to respond to opposition with dignity and composure worthy of the office; the president should not resort to insulting and name-calling those who disagree with him or her; and

WHEREAS, The safety of the American people should at all times be top priority; the president should not impulsively threaten nuclear retaliation against our enemies, especially on social media; and

WHEREAS, The president should always conduct his or her self with the highest professional and personal standards; he or she should not crudely boast about grabbing the genitals of another human being, refer to members of and veterans of our military as weak for experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, or openly mock those with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, America is meant to be a beacon of hope and opportunity for those seeking a better life; the president should not refer to immigrants and to other countries in derogatory terms which only serves to weaken our international relationships; and

WHEREAS, The president should take a strong and clear stance against racism and discrimination of any kind; he or she should not sympathize with white nationalists or any other group or ideology that attempts to devalue and degrade the lives of millions of American citizens; and

WHEREAS, Before voting for the highest office in the land Americans have a right to know whether an individual has the physical and mental fitness to serve as President of the United States; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the American people deserve to know they have a leader with the physical and mental stamina necessary to effectively and honorably serve as President of the United States; and be it further

RESOLVED, That to preserve the integrity of the office of President of the United States all presidential nominees should be required to undergo a standardized medical examination including a mental health evaluation, and to publicly disclose the results before the election; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered Governor Rauner, President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
