HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, For the second consecutive year, the St. Charles North High School Mock Trial Team placed first in the 2018 Illinois State Bar Association Mock Trial tournament held in Champaign on March 24 and 25, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The reigning state champions beat 42 other teams to secure their third state title in five years; this is the sixth straight time the team has finished in second place or higher; and

WHEREAS, During the tournament, teams had to present both sides of a civil case and were judged on their presentation skills, the quality of their arguments, their knowledge of the law, and their ability to adapt during the trial; and

WHEREAS, Members of the team include Patrick Brady, Brittany Cicinelli, Vanshika Dixit, Joshua Heroldt, Lizzy Kramer, Elena Maganini, Adam Nguyen, Deesha Patel, Ishani Patel, and Sanjeev Viswan; the team is coached by Janelle VanDeSampel and Robin Roberts, both from School District 303, and Patrick Crimmins, a lawyer who has coached 29 teams; and

WHEREAS, During the state tournament, senior Joshua Heroldt received special recognition as an outstanding attorney, and junior Sanjeev Viswan was recognized for being an outstanding witness; and

WHEREAS, The team will compete against schools across the country and represent Illinois at the National High School Mock Trial tournament in Reno, Nevada on May 10-12, 2018; students will act as prosecutors, defense lawyers, and witnesses in an entirely new federal case; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the St. Charles North High School Mock Trial Team for their past and present achievements, and we wish them continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the St. Charles North High School Mock Trial Team as an expression of our esteem and respect.
