HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, In July of 1984, the first Culver's Frozen Custard 
3and Butter Burger restaurant opened for business in Sauk City, 
4Wisconsin; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Franchisee Guy Hollis was attracted to Berwyn 
6because of the sense of pride he felt from its residents; he  
7rode his bike through town to get to know the area better and 
8knew the location was perfect for a brand new Culver's; in 
92011, Berwyn's Culver's was built on Roosevelt Road, replacing 
10a vacant mixed-use space; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Berwyn Culver's has had a positive impact in 
12the city ever since; it invests in the community that invests 
13in them, giving back 1% of their total sales through various 
14Berwyn-centric endeavors, including community-focused events 
15and fundraisers, providing jobs to   residents, donations to 
16local schools and even donating a scoreboard to the Berwyn Park 
17District; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The Berwyn Culver's has participated in notable 
19local events like Berwyn's Oktoberfest, where brand mascot, 
20Scoopie, makes highly anticipated appearances in the family 
21pavilion, as well as the annual Berwyn Development Corporation 
22Zombie Walk and Pub Crawl, where they host face painting before

1festivities kick off; and
  
 
  
2    WHEREAS, The George W. Ashby Award for Business Excellence 
3is a local honor named after one of Berwyn's distinguished 
4early architects; the award is given annually to one 
5Berwyn-based business that presents a professional and 
6favorable image to Berwyn, provides quality goods or services, 
7maintains a visually appealing space, and practices high 
8quality customer service to its patrons; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
10HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11congratulate the Berwyn Culver's as the recipient of the 8th 
12Annual George W. Ashby Award for Business Excellence, and look 
13forward to many more years of them being a part of the Berwyn 
14business community; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the Berwyn Culver's as a symbol of our respect and 
17esteem.
