| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maurice |
| 4 | | L. Powe Jr., who passed away on March 17, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Powe was born in Chicago to Esteen and |
| 6 | | Maurice Powe Sr. on July 21, 1949 and was baptized at Ebenezer |
| 7 | | Lutheran Church in Chicago; he attended Rowell B. Mason |
| 8 | | Elementary School and was the first African-American to attend |
| 9 | | Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, graduating in |
| 10 | | 1967; his first job was at Mr. Sinai Hospital in the Radiology |
| 11 | | Department and he then served in the United States Army from |
| 12 | | 1968 to 1975; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Powe's was employed as a conductor for the |
| 14 | | Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 2015 after 45 years of |
| 15 | | dedicated service; he then obtained part-time employment at |
| 16 | | Pinnacle Property on the Hines V.A. Compound; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Powe was affectionately known as "Chico" |
| 18 | | or "Mo"; he was an avid sports enthusiast, whether it was |
| 19 | | baseball, basketball, football, or hockey; he also enjoyed |
| 20 | | watching CNN and being knowledgeable about current events; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Powe was preceded in death by his parents; |
