HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the life of Father Lawrence Duris; and

WHEREAS, Father Duris attended Quigley High School, Niles College, and Mundelein Seminary; he was ordained as a priest in 1969; and

WHEREAS, Father Duris has spent all of his priesthood in Parish Ministry on the South Side of Chicago; he served as pastor of St. Lawrence for 11 years, pastor of St. Philip Neri for 18 years, non-resident pastor at Our Lady of Peace for nine years, and associate pastor of St. Ethelreda and Holy Cross Churches; he served as Dean of Deanery VI-B for 15 years; his current assignment is as pastor of St Ailbe Catholic Church, where he celebrated his 9th year on February 26, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Father Duris has been involved with numerous ministries, including the Worldwide Marriage Encounter, the Presbyterian Council, United Power for Action and Justice, and the Association of Chicago Priests Coordinating Board; he coordinated overnight sessions with the Cardinal and priests that minister in the black community; he has served on numerous advisory boards, including the Augustus Tolton Scholarship Program Board at the Catholic Theological Union and the United Power for Action and Justice Affordable Housing Board; and

WHEREAS, In 2016, Father Duris received the Pope John XXIII Award for Outstanding Ministry by the Association of Chicago Priests; and

WHEREAS, Father Duris enjoys black history, music, drama, art, and architecture; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the life of Father Lawrence Duris, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Father Duris as an expression of our esteem and respect.
