HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Invest in Kids Act provides an opportunity for students from low-income and working-class families the ability to receive a tax-credit scholarship to attend non-public schools that meet their needs; and

WHEREAS, These students are only able to receive scholarships to attend qualified schools; and

WHEREAS, A qualified school is defined as a school that is located in Illinois and is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education will provide the Illinois Department of Revenue, who is managing the Invest in Kids Act program, a list of all recognized schools; and

WHEREAS, Some currently-recognized schools are not able to participate in the Invest in Kids Act program; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education will complete the review process for schools that applied for recognition prior to November 15, 2017 for the 2017-2018 school year; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Revenue regulates scholarship granting organizations under the program; and

WHEREAS, The recognized school list will be updated before scholarship granting organization payments are made; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the Illinois State Board of Education send a list of all non-public schools that have been recognized for the 2017-2018 school year and all schools that could be recognized before the 2018-2019 school year begins to the Illinois Department of Revenue; and be it further

RESOLVED, That these schools be listed by the Illinois Department of Revenue; school donors can donate to schools on the list and students can apply for scholarships to attend; scholarship granting organizations will submit payment once a school becomes recognized.
