HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Kankakee Community 
4College on receiving a Gold Rating from the Association for the 
5Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE); and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The AASHE's 2017 Sustainable Campus Index 
7recognized top-performing college and universities overall by 
8institution type and in 17 sustainability impact areas, as 
9measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating 
10System (STARS) and further highlighted innovative and 
11high-impact initiatives from institutions; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, In the 2017 report, Kankakee Community College 
13ranked second in North America among associate degree colleges 
14for sustainability practices; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Scoring is on a scale from zero to 100, with 
16scores of 65 and above earning Gold Status; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Kankakee Community College earned a score of 
1867.94, making it one of only two community colleges in the 
19country to receive the gold status distinction; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Kankakee Community College placed highest in

1campus engagement, coordination, planning and governance, 
2diversity and affordability, and water use and rainwater 
3management; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6recognize Kankakee Community College for their leadership and 
7commitment to advancing sustainability; and be it further
  
   
8    RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourages all 
9colleges and universities in Illinois to continue to strive for 
10excellence in all areas related to energy conservation, energy 
11efficiency, and renewable energy solutions; and be it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to Kankakee Community College President Dr. John 
14Avendano to commemorate the college's commitment to 
15sustainability.
