HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Chris Dangles 
4on receiving the 2017 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from 
5the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across 
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural 
8settings; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, In 1974, Dr. Dangles graduated from the Stritch 
10School of Medicine at Loyola University in Maywood, Illinois; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Dangles completed his residency in 
13Orthopaedic Oncology at the Sloan Kettering Institute in New 
14York in 1977 and in Orthopaedic Surgery at Cook County Hospital 
15in Chicago in 1980; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, After serving as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at 
17Great Lakes Naval Regional Medical Center, Dr. Dangles moved to 
18Central Illinois in 1987, where he practiced at Carle Clinic 
19until 2010; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, In 2010, Dr. Dangles joined the Orthopaedic

1Department at Gibson Area Hospital; his outstanding reputation 
2has drawn both patients and other physicians and orthopaedic 
3surgeons into the Department; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Through his many years of service as a Clinical 
5Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois, Dr. Dangles 
6has inspired hundreds of medical students; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Dangles has been active 
8in professional societies, including  serving as President of 
9the Illinois Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Eighth 
10District Trustee for the Illinois State Medical Society, a 
11Board Member for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 
12and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons American 
13Medical Association Delegate; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Outside of the operating room, Dr. Dangles owns a 
15vast collection of 23 bicycles and logs over 5,000 miles 
16annually; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Dangles has improved rural healthcare in East 
18Central Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
21commend Dr. Dangles for his years of selfless service and

1dedication to his patients and students; and be it further
  
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
3presented to Dr. Dangles as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
