| 2 | | WHEREAS, the members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Trinity High School on the |
| 4 | | occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Trinity High School is a Catholic |
| 6 | | college-preparatory high school for young women; Trinity has |
| 7 | | earned an excellent reputation as a premier high school with a |
| 8 | | strong commitment to educating young women and preparing them |
| 9 | | for the future: intellectually, spiritually, socially, and |
| 10 | | morally; for 100 years, Trinity has been a cornerstone of the |
| 11 | | Oak Park-River Forest community; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In July 1917, five Dominican sisters from |
| 13 | | Sinsinawa, Wisconsin purchased land on the northwestern edge of |
| 14 | | River Forest and founded Rosary House, a Catholic high school |
| 15 | | for girls; recruiting students proved to be difficult, but by |
| 16 | | the following year, 15 students were enrolled; they were called |
| 17 | | the Fortunate Fifteen, one for each mystery of the rosary; for |
| 18 | | the next four years, a grade level was added until Rosary House |
| 19 | | was a four-year high school; the first class of 28 students |
| 20 | | graduated in 1922, and that same year, the school was |
| 21 | | accredited and admitted to the North Central Association of |
| 22 | | Colleges and High Schools; the school established the first |
| 23 | | Girl Scout troop in River Forest and continued to add |
|

| 1 | | extra-curricular activities, including baseball, croquet, |
| 2 | | basketball, a drama club, a camera club, an annual yearbook, |
| 3 | | and an alumnae club; Rosary House continued to grow; the school |
| 4 | | was moved, and the name was changed to Trinity High School in |
| 5 | | 1926; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The next several decades brought continued change |
| 7 | | and success to Trinity, including increased enrollment, the |
| 8 | | construction of new buildings and additions, an interview with |
| 9 | | Eleanor Roosevelt, a charter from the Quill and Scroll, the |
| 10 | | international honor society for high school journalists, a |
| 11 | | first-class rating from the National Scholastic Press |
| 12 | | Association, participation in the National Merit Scholarship |
| 13 | | program, the introduction of an Advisory Board and the |
| 14 | | formation of a Board of Directors; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Trinity's tradition of academic excellence |
| 16 | | continued with the introduction of the prestigious |
| 17 | | International Baccalaureate Diploma program in 1994; the |
| 18 | | program encompasses a rigorous pre-university course of |
| 19 | | studies designed as a two-year curriculum covering six academic |
| 20 | | areas; in addition to the traditional liberal arts curriculum, |
| 21 | | students take a Theory of Knowledge class, fulfill a 150 hour |
| 22 | | service requirement, and write a 4,000 word essay on a topic of |
| 23 | | their choice; shortly after introducing the International |
| 24 | | Baccalaureate Diploma program, Trinity also implemented block |

| 1 | | scheduling, which is based on the collegiate model; Trinity was |
| 2 | | the first Catholic school in the Chicago Archdiocese to offer |
| 3 | | this program; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, By choosing to remain a single-gender school, |
| 5 | | Trinity affirmed its commitment to challenging and preparing |
| 6 | | young women to be tomorrow's leaders; Trinity's graduates have |
| 7 | | been and will continue to be innovative, productive, and |
| 8 | | leading members in all aspects of society; the lessons they |
| 9 | | have learned at Trinity High School have helped them build |
| 10 | | successful careers, loving families, and better communities; |
| 11 | | and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Trinity still embodies the same spirit of those |
| 13 | | first Fortunate Fifteen girls and the same dedication of the |
| 14 | | pioneer sisters who began Rosary House High School; this spirit |
| 15 | | and dedication to education, leadership, and faith will guide |
| 16 | | Trinity High School through its 100th anniversary and many |
| 17 | | years beyond; therefore, be it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 19 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 | | recognize Trinity High School on the 100th anniversary of its |
| 21 | | founding, and we wish them many more successful years; and be |
| 22 | | it further
