HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the 2017 Day of the Dead 
4celebration in Aurora on November 5, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated 
6throughout Mexico, in particular the central and south regions; 
7it is also celebrated by people of Mexican ancestry living in 
8other places, especially the United States; the multi-day 
9holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for 
10and remember friends and family members who have died and help 
11support their spiritual journey; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The Day of the Dead celebration in Aurora began in 
132012 as a way to remember loved ones who had passed throughout 
14the years; participants honor their loved ones' lives while 
15indulging in their favorite foods, drinks, music, and 
16achievements; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The goal of the Day of the Dead celebration in 
18Aurora is for families in the area to learn about cultures, 
19traditions, and perspectives on life and death; and
  
 
  
20    WHEREAS, The Aurora community plays a crucial role in this 
21celebration, bringing together participants of all skill

1levels, ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds and helps provide 
2opportunities for all residents to achieve a common goal; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6recognize the 2017 Day of the Dead celebration in Aurora on 
7November 5, 2017; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to the organizers of this year's celebration.
