HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Village of Westmont 
4and the Taiwanese county of Hsinchu on the establishment of a 
5Sister Cities program; the mission of the sister cities program 
6is to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and 
7cooperation - one individual, one community at at time; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Village of Westmont is a community located 
9approximately 22 miles west of the Chicago Loop, named because 
10it is the highest point of elevation on the Burlington-Northern 
11railroad west of Chicago; the county of Hsinchu is located in 
12northwestern Taiwan and is often called the Hsinchu Technology 
13Zone, as it is the location of many computer companies and 
14factories; the relationship between the Village of Westmont and 
15the Taiwanese community began over two decades ago; during the 
16last several years, the partnership has blossomed into a 
17genuine friendship; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The goals of this Sister City program are cultural 
19exchange, educational exchange, municipal exchange, and 
20economic development; therefore, be it
  
 


  
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
22HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1congratulate the Village of Westmont and Hsinchu on the 
2establishment of a Sister City program, and wish them many more 
3years of continued friendship and success; and be it further
  
 
4    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
5delivered to the Village Board of Westmont and the Taipei 
6Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago.
