HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Bernice Pillow Higgins on 
4the occasion of her 100th birthday; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins was born in Nashville to Lora
and 
6Robert A. Pillow on September 22, 1917 and had four siblings; 
7and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins attended elementary school and 
9high school in
Nashville and graduated from Tennessee State 
10University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins married Julius Higgins on April 5, 
121941 and they had one daughter, Judith Louise; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins joined Alpha Kappa Alpha 
14Sorority, Incorporated in
1945 and is a member of the East St. 
15Louis Alumnae Chapter; she has been a member for 72 years and 
16has attained the status of Golden Soror; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins is a member of the St. Augustine 
18of  Hippo Catholic
Church in East St. Louis; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins taught in the Nashville School

1District for nine years and then East St. Louis School District 
2189 for over
31 years; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins has led a life filled with 
4experiences and has shared her wisdom with others for over 10 
5decades; therefore, be it
  
 
  
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
7HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8congratulate  Bernice Pillow Higgins on her 100th birthday and 
9thank her for the
love and service she has bestowed on her 
10community; and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Bernice Higgins as a symbol of our respect and 
13esteem.
