| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the life of Grandmaster Stan |
| 4 | | McKinney; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Grandmaster McKinney is a 9th degree black belt; |
| 6 | | he began his studies of the martial arts in the 1960s in |
| 7 | | Chicago; he obtained his 1st Dan black belt in Shorei Goju |
| 8 | | Karate in 1970; later, he received his black belt in Kenpo |
| 9 | | Karate; he has studied Hapkido Karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Gung |
| 10 | | Fu, Wing Chung, and Kung Fu; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Grandmaster McKinney has taught and lived in the |
| 12 | | Uptown community for 10 years and worked as a community |
| 13 | | activist since the 1970s; he has operated martial arts classes |
| 14 | | for the Chicago Park District and schools around the city that |
| 15 | | enable students to obtain credit for their studies; he has |
| 16 | | opened 10 dojos, trained thousands of students, and promoted |
| 17 | | six black belts; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Grandmaster McKinney is a Midwest heavyweight top |
| 19 | | ten point fighter champion; he has received Midwest official |
| 20 | | referee judge of the year from 1995 to 1998; he was appointed |
| 21 | | regional director of the United Martial Arts Association and |
| 22 | | inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame by the US Federation |
