| 2 | | WHEREAS, The tragic events that took place on August 12, |
| 3 | | 2017 in Charlottesville, Virginia prove that
violence |
| 4 | | threatens the maintenance of social order and individual |
| 5 | | freedom; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Our nation was built on the idea that bigotry is |
| 7 | | the disease of ignorance and all men and
women should be judged |
| 8 | | by the content of their character; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Extreme rhetoric can reverse improvements in race |
| 10 | | relations, divide the nation, and foment
hatred; therefore, be |
| 11 | | it
|
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 13 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 14 | | strongly denounce and oppose the violent terrorism, extreme |
| 15 | | rhetoric, and bigoted ideologies
that are being promoted; and |
| 16 | | be it further |
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That we urge law enforcement to recognize this |
| 18 | | violence as domestic terrorism, and to
pursue the criminal |
| 19 | | elements of these domestic terrorists in the same manner and |
| 20 | | with the same fervor
used to protect the United States from |
| 21 | | other manifestations of terrorism; and be it further
