HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the 28th Annual Black & Gold Scholarship Gala presented by the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation, a not-for-profit entity of the Theta Mu Lambda Chapter - Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated; and

WHEREAS, This event raises funds in order to continue providing educational resources and scholarships for young African American students to expand their scholastic opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha firmly believes in creating resources, leadership skills, and tools for youth to realize their full potential and is dedicated to building a foundation for the educational and personal development of future leaders; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha provides many community services including scholarship awards funded by the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation in excess of $160,000 to date, the "Leaders of Tomorrow" mentorship program that provides mentorship and personal development through a six-month long program, "Project Alpha" leadership training, college tours, and many other educational programs; and

WHEREAS, This year's program theme is "A Celebration of Education, Mentoring and Community Leadership"; and

WHEREAS, Three community leaders will be honored with the Impact Award for their work with youth at this year's event; and

WHEREAS, The gala will be held on November 18, 2017 at the Tinley Park Convention Center; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 28th Annual Black & Gold Scholarship Gala and we wish the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Theta Mu Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity as an expression of our esteem and respect.
