HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the 100th anniversary of the 
4founding of the Beverly Improvement Association (BIA); and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The BIA, located in North Beverly, serves the area 
6from 87th to 95th streets and Western to Beverly avenues; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The BIA was first organized in 1904 and officially 
8recognized by the Secretary of State 13 years later on June 29, 
91917; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, In the early years of the BIA, the association 
11would hire a man who used his team of horses to plow snow in 
12front of vacant properties; it would also hire a worker with a 
13horse-drawn sickle-bar mower or scythe to cut overgrown grass 
14and weeds in vacant lots; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Today, the BIA  focuses on events that keep North 
16Beverly attractive or support people in need, including "Clean 
17and Green", bird-watching, a bicycle treasure hunt, 
18cross-country skiing, "Movie in the Park", and "Santa's 
19Workshop"; the BIA has helped repair sidewalks designed for 
20disabled people, as well as supported the installation of 
21culs-de-sac and other traffic devices; and

1    WHEREAS, Membership in the BIA provides residents a way to 
2give back to their community; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5recognize the 100th anniversary of the Beverly Improvement 
6Association, thank them for their commitment to the betterment 
7of their community, and wish them many more successful years; 
8and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to the BIA as an expression of our esteem and 
11respect.
