HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize former State Representative 
4Monique D. Davis; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Ever since she was a little girl growing up in 
6Chicago's Roseland (North) neighborhood (Black

7Bottom/Lilydale), Rep. Davis has been a distinguished citizen 
8and public servant; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Rep. Davis excelled in her education and in all 
10other pursuits; she taught in Chicago Public Schools and was 
11counted among Golden Apple Teachers nationwide; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. Davis was encouraged to run for
elected 
13office; her  neighbors have relied on her for guidance in 
14community
improvement projects and in establishing the 
15Lilydale Oldtimers Community Organization; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Rep. Davis has always been fully engaged in 
17community services as well as in her church and politics in 
18order to
make the world better; and
  
 
  
19    WHEREAS, Rep. Davis  retired from office after serving 32 
20years; in commemoration of  her lifelong dedicated work for the

1public good in her Lilydale community, the
City of Chicago, and 
2the State of Illinois, a community movement has begun to rename 
3the Abbott Park building in her honor as "The
Monique D. Davis 
4Folk-Art and Historical Museum of Migration"; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
7recognize former State Representative Monique D. Davis, and we 
8thank her for her commitment to her community and to her State; 
9and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That we declare August 5, 2017 as "State Rep. 
11Monique D. Davis Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it 
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented Rep. Davis as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
