| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Fred |
| 4 | | August Kummerow of Urbana, who passed away on May 31, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Fred Kummerow became a resident of Urbana in order |
| 6 | | to pursue the position of Assistant Professor of Food Chemistry |
| 7 | | at the University of Illinois after successfully completing his |
| 8 | | bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees at the University of |
| 9 | | Wisconsin-Madison; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Fred Kummerow served as a Ph.D. thesis advisor for |
| 11 | | over 60 graduate students; he authored or coauthored over 400 |
| 12 | | peer-reviewed papers during his time at the university; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Fred Kummerow's determination, even in the face of |
| 14 | | skepticism and other challenges, to pursue knowledge of the |
| 15 | | relationship of lipids to nutrition and heart disease resulted |
| 16 | | in revolutionary findings; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Fred Kummerow's research changed the way people |
| 18 | | think about their diet across the globe and forced federal |
| 19 | | agencies to acknowledge the dangers of trans fats; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Fred Kummerow not only manifested scientific |
