HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat anti-Semitism in the United States Department of State was created in 2004 with bipartisan congressional support and has had the full support of the last two presidents; and

WHEREAS, Since 2004, the Special Envoy has helped document abuses against Jewish communities abroad, as well as develop and implement approaches to fight anti-Semitism, filling a major void; the Special Envoy was also able to address specific problems in France, Argentina, Hungary, Ukraine, Greece, and Egypt that might have otherwise not been properly addressed; and

WHEREAS, Anti-Semitism is on the rise in the United States and in other nations; and

WHEREAS, The position of Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat anti-Semitism is currently vacant and needs to be filled; and

WHEREAS, The office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat anti-Semitism should also be adequately staffed and funded; and

WHEREAS, The United States has been a leader in the fight against anti-Semitism and for human rights; the Special Envoy has played a unique and important role in this effort; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge President Trump to fill the position of Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat anti-Semitism and to fully fund and staff the office; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to President Trump.
