HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives would like to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Carlyle Lake; and

WHEREAS, Carlyle Lake was created in 1967 in Southern Illinois just north of the town of Carlyle; and

WHEREAS, The formation of Carlyle Lake is the result of the Kaskaskia River Valley Project, promoted by many individuals with a dedicated purpose to build, improve, and progress; and

WHEREAS, As Illinois' largest man-made lake, Carlyle Lake provides exceptional recreation opportunities, energizes the local and national economy, and plays a major role in flood damage reduction for the entire nation; and

WHEREAS, Carlyle Lake has an average of 2.5 million visitors per year with $80 million in revenue being spent within 30 miles of the lake; and

WHEREAS, Carlyle Lake has had almost a billion dollars in flood control damages prevented over the past 10 years, a water supply that serves over 100,000 people, and conservation initiatives that protect natural resources; and

WHEREAS, Balancing the lake's many purposes of conservation, flood control, water supply and quality, recreation opportunity, and navigation has not been an easy task but thanks to countless organizations, citizens, and stakeholders Carlyle Lake has had 50 years of success; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we celebrate Carlyle Lake for everything it has done for the surrounding people, the State, and the nation over the last 50 years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we look forward to many more successful years of Carlyle Lake serving the people of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be sent to Carlyle Mayor Judy Smith and the Hazlet family.
