| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives would like to celebrate the 50th anniversary of |
| 4 | | Carlyle Lake; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Carlyle Lake was created in 1967 in Southern |
| 6 | | Illinois just north of the town of Carlyle; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The formation of Carlyle Lake is the result of the |
| 8 | | Kaskaskia River Valley Project, promoted by many individuals |
| 9 | | with a dedicated purpose to build, improve, and progress; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, As Illinois' largest man-made lake, Carlyle Lake |
| 11 | | provides exceptional recreation opportunities, energizes the |
| 12 | | local and national economy, and plays a major role in flood |
| 13 | | damage reduction for the entire nation; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Carlyle Lake has an average of 2.5 million |
| 15 | | visitors per year with $80 million in revenue being spent |
| 16 | | within 30 miles of the lake; and

| 17 | | WHEREAS, Carlyle Lake has had almost a billion dollars in |
| 18 | | flood control damages prevented over the past 10 years, a water |
| 19 | | supply that serves over 100,000 people, and conservation |
| 20 | | initiatives that protect natural resources; and
