| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Elizabeth Tisdahl on the |
| 4 | | occasion of her retirement as Mayor of the City of Evanston; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl served as Mayor of Evanston for |
| 7 | | eight years from April of 2009 to May of 2017; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl's work on environmental |
| 9 | | sustainability was recognized by the United States Conference |
| 10 | | of Mayors; she
was selected as one of two winners of the 2011 |
| 11 | | Mayors' Climate Protection Awards and was a member of the |
| 12 | | United States Conference of Mayors Water Council in Washington,
|
| 13 | | D.C.; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Prior to running for the mayor's office, Mayor |
| 15 | | Tisdahl served as the 7th Ward Alderman from 2003 to 2009; her |
| 16 | | political experience began in 1989 when she joined the Evanston |
| 17 | | Township High School
Board of Education, where she served 12 |
| 18 | | years, including two as president; in 2002, she
was presented |
| 19 | | the Democratic Party of Evanston Community Service Award; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl was a founding member of the Mothers |
| 21 | | Against Gangs School Liaison in 1987 and served as co-chair |
|

1992 until 1995; between 1987 and 1995, she served on the |
| 2 | | Evanston Community Foundation Advisory Committee; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl's many honors include the Park |
| 4 | | School Certificate of Recognition in 1992, the |
| 5 | | Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center Salute to Women in Human |
| 6 | | Services Appreciation Award in 1999, and
the Chessmen Club of |
| 7 | | the North Shore Community Service Award in 2002; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl has lived in Evanston for 39 years |
| 9 | | and chose the community because of its
diversity and its |
| 10 | | commitment to the welfare of all its citizens; she and her late |
| 11 | | husband, Al, raised their family
in Evanston and sent their |
| 12 | | children to Evanston public schools; she now has two |
| 13 | | grandchildren living in Evanston,
also attending public |
| 14 | | schools; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 16 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 | | recognize Elizabeth Tisdahl on her retirement as Mayor of the |
| 18 | | City of Evanston, and we wish her the best in all her future |
| 19 | | endeavors; and be it further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to Mayor Tisdahl as an expression of our esteem and |
| 22 | | respect.
