| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the 60th anniversary of the |
| 4 | | LaGrange Area Department of Special Education (LADSE); and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, LADSE began as a pilot project in 1956, an
|
| 6 | | initiative led by its first Executive Director, C. Lewis |
| 7 | | Martin; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, LADSE was established by the State of Illinois in |
| 9 | | 1957; it was authorized to assist 14 public school districts in |
| 10 | | the delivery of special
education services to students with |
| 11 | | disabilities - services that were not yet required by federal |
| 12 | | law; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1957, LADSE provided special education |
| 14 | | classroom
instruction to 122 students in 12 classrooms located |
| 15 | | in five member districts; as of 2017, LADSE provides |
| 16 | | specialized classroom instruction to 185 students in 20 |
| 17 | | classrooms located in seven member districts and two community |
| 18 | | settings; in addition, LADSE provides
vocational instruction |
| 19 | | to 208 district students in district classrooms and community |
| 20 | | settings; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1966, LADSE began operating the Secondary Deaf |
|

| 1 | | and Hard of Hearing program for students in the DuPage West |
| 2 | | Cook region, serving up to 80 students from 25 or more |
| 3 | | districts on an annual basis; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, In 2017, LADSE provides more than 20 types of |
| 5 | | support services designed to help students, who have or
are at |
| 6 | | risk of disabilities, achieve improved outcomes in district |
| 7 | | classrooms and in community settings; in the summer of 2017, |
| 8 | | LADSE will provide specialized instruction to 250 eligible |
| 9 | | preschool or
elementary students and 20 high school students; |
| 10 | | and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The primary purpose of LADSE is now to provide |
| 12 | | access to the wide range of specialized services and
|
| 13 | | information necessary to make district services more complete, |
| 14 | | more personalized, and more effective
for students who have or |
| 15 | | are at-risk of disabilities; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 17 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 18 | | recognize the 60th anniversary of the LaGrange Area Department |
| 19 | | of Special Education, and we wish them many more successful |
| 20 | | years; and be it further
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to LADSE as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
