HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of

3Representatives wish to congratulate
Mary Ann Lelys on 
4celebrating 50 years of employment with the Illinois Department 
5of Insurance on July 17, 2017; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Lelys began her career at the Illinois 
7Department of Insurance in Springfield on July 17, 1967, 
8shortly after graduating from Springfield High School; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, During Mary Ann Lelys' initial interview with 
10Frances Martin, he told her that she needed experience to 
11assume the secretarial position he was seeking to fill; she 
12replied, "How will I ever get experience if you don't give me 
13an opportunity by hiring me?" and the next day he called to 
14offer her the position; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Since July of 1967, Mary Ann Lelys has served in 
16numerous clerical support capacities within the department; 
17currently she is an administrative assistant in the 
18department's legal division; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Lelys has served under 10 governors, 
20beginning with Governor Otto Kerner to Governor Bruce Rauner; 
21she has served under 25 department directors, from John Bolton

1Jr. to Director Jennifer Walch Hammer; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Lelys has always enjoyed her employment 
3with the Department and particularly appreciates Frances 
4Martin for giving her the chance back in 1967 to have a 
5lifelong career with the Illinois Department of Insurance; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Lelys is a member of the Springfield 
7Orchid Society, the Sangamon County Historical Society, the 
8Lithuanian-American Club of Springfield, and the Illinois 
9Audubon Society; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Lelys enjoys gardening, sunbathing, and 
11taking care of her Cockatoo and African Grey Parrots; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Lelys has been married to Michael for 47 
13years, who is the Director of the Oak Ridge Cemetery in 
14Springfield; they have one son, Christopher, who also works for 
15the Illinois Department of Insurance; therefore, be it
 
  
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
18congratulate Mary Ann Lelys on celebrating 50 years of 
19employment with the Illinois Department of Insurance; and be it
